Edge computing combines open network capabilities with big data and cloud computing platforms, allowing third-party applications to be deployed at the edge of the network. The traditional backhaul cloud method is obviously unable to meet this latency and bandwidth requirements, and edge computing can replace it. It will become an important solution to solve these new businesses in the future.

Regarding the bright prospects and widespread applications of edge computing, the standardization work on edge computing has gradually attracted the attention of major standardization organizations. The European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) first published the edge computing white paper in 2015 [3, The content of this white paper involves the definition of edge computing, scenario applications, platform architecture, enabling technologies and deployment solutions. After that, ETSI officially launched the standardization work of edge computing. So far, ETSI has proposed including: edge computing Platform architecture [·, edge computing technology requirements, edge computing application program interface (API) interface guidelines [5], edge computing application (application, APP) enablement and other content versions. Currently, ETSI is concerned with edge computing The first phase of the standardization work has ended, and the tasks of phase 2 have been carried out.

This pilot mainly solves the problem of multi-channel video scheduling and distribution in the venue. Authorized users in the venue can quickly and seamlessly switch between multiple live broadcasts. China Unicom is already at the forefront of edge computing development and will plan and lay out the construction of the future 5G edge cloud.

Abstract Edge computing is a new network architecture and open platform that integrates network, computing, storage, and application core capabilities on the edge of the network. Edge computing changes the way of traditional centralized cloud computing which moves computing and storage capabilities to the edge of the network . Edge computing can greatly reduce the congestion and burden of core network and transmission network, due to canceling the data backhaul. And it can lower the delay, bring high bandwidth. Also at the same time it can quickly respond to users’requests and improve service quality. Now, edge computing has become an important enabling technology for the future 5G, and it has been written into 3GPP standard. More and more operators, equipment vendors and chip manufacturers join to construct the edge computing ecological. How to build a unifiedstandardized edge computing platform for future ecological construction is very important. Therefore, this paper focuses on the progress of standardization of the current edge computing. From edgecomputing architecture was first proposed by ETSI, to edge computing has been listed as the key technology for future 5G development in 3GPP. The approval of projects of the edge computing inCCSA is also included. The introduction of each part has a great deal of analysis and explanation of the standard content. In the end, this paper introduces China Unicom’s edge computing research achievement in recent years, including the important edge computing experimental project , the pilot scheme for future edge computing of China Unicom and the exploration of the network deploymentplan of edge computing. We are looking forward to discuss the edge computing commercialcooperation mode with all sectors so as to jointly build the network edge ecology and comprehensively accelerate the vigorous development of 5G services.
