As in previous years, Transforma Insights reviews the IoT strategies of major communications service providers. As part of the study, the agency collects quantitative data on connectivity, revenue and other statistics.
1.55 billion IoT connections
The overall IoT connection number of 1.55 billion increased by 6% in the second quarter of 2021, which is the largest quarterly increase since the fourth quarter of 2019. In the second quarter of 2020, this number was only 0.5%.
China Dominates IoT Connectivity
Three Chinese operators continue to dominate the world market with a large number of connections in their domestic market, accounting for two-thirds of all connections. Apart from these three, Vodafone retained its crown as the second largest operator with 130 million connections, followed by AT&T, Verizon, Deutsche Telekom, Telefónica and Orange.
