Basic concepts of RTU controller

RTU (Remote Terminal Unit), the full name in English is RemoteTerminalUnit, and the full name in Chinese is Remote Terminal Control System, which is responsible for monitoring and controlling on-site signals and industrial equipment. RTU controller is the core device that constitutes the enterprise’s comprehensive automation system. It usually consists of signal input/output module, microprocessor, wired/wireless communication equipment, power supply and housing. It is controlled by microprocessor and supports network system. Through its own software (or intelligent software) system, it can ideally realize the telemetry, remote control, remote signaling and remote adjustment functions of the enterprise’s central monitoring and dispatching system for primary instruments at the production site.

RTU-controller is an intelligent terminal device that realizes remote data collection, processing, storage, encryption and transmission based on GPRS, 3G/4G, NB-IoT and other communication networks. It realizes the connection of things and human-computer interaction, and is widely used in various IoT application scenarios such as status sensing, facility monitoring, data interaction, and operation control.

Basic functions of RTU controller

Data collection: Collect output data or signals from sensors, measuring instruments, PLC, etc.
Status monitoring: Monitor the power supply status, start/stop status, fault status and operating conditions of various types of equipment.
Image surveillance: control on-site cameras to take photos at scheduled times or according to instructions.
Remote communication: Remote communication with application platforms through GPRS, 4G, NB-IoT networks.
Equipment control: remotely control equipment start and stop; remotely set equipment working mode.
Abnormal alarm: Automatically upload alarm information when data/status is abnormal or equipment fails.
