Second generation (2G network):

The digital signals used in this technology consume less battery and therefore result in less power consumption. Cell phone data service is also provided. The advanced versions are 2.5G and 2.75G.

Third generation (3G network):

Japan developed its 3G mobile network in 2001 to achieve the highest speeds that 2G technology lacked. The standards for this technology are set by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU). This technology provides users with services such as GPS (Global Positioning System), video conferencing and mobile TV.

It offers slower download speeds and slower access to apps. Apps are accessed and downloaded faster.
2G is not very compatible with smartphone functionality. Data transfer rates can be 50,000 bits per second. 3G is widely used in smartphones. Data transfer rates can exceed 4 million bits per second.
It’s not as secure as 3G. Since 3G networks allow authentication measures, they are highly secure.
Unable to make video call. Video calls are available.
Upload speeds up to 236 kbps. Download speeds are up to 21 Mbps and upload speeds are up to 5 Mbps.
