Industrieel internet van dingen tijdens de COVID-19-epidemie Verscheidene industrieën over de hele wereld versnellen de toepassing van internet van dingen.

In 2021, the application of the Industrial Internet in supply chains such as global agriculture, power facilities, mining, oil and gas, and transportation and logistics will grow rapidly and become highly mature.

Since the COVID-19 epidemic, the maturity of enterprises applying industrial Internet of Things (IoT) has increased rapidly. Respondents from multiple industries said that the COVID-19 epidemic has highlighted the importance of IoT to their business and prompted them to accelerate the deployment of IoT. to respond to the new coronavirus epidemic.

Relevant research shows that from 2020 to 2021, the application of the Internet of Things has made significant progress. More than three-quarters (77%) of surveyed enterprises have fully deployed at least one IoT project, with 41% of enterprises completing their deployment within 12 months from the second quarter of 2020. The remaining surveyed companies (23%) that have not yet fully deployed IoT projects said they are currently conducting trial runs of projects, or plan to deploy or pilot at least one IoT project in the next 18 months.

Another 84% of respondents said they have accelerated or plan to accelerate IoT applications to cope with the challenges posed by the COVID-19 epidemic. Among them, 47% said they have accelerated IoT applications in response to the COVID-19 epidemic, 24% said they would accelerate IoT applications in the next 12 months, and 14% said they would accelerate IoT applications in the next 12 months. Compared with companies that have not yet accelerated IoT applications, 47% of companies that have accelerated IoT applications said that the COVID-19 epidemic is less likely to have a negative impact on their operational capabilities, reflecting the connection between IoT applications and maintaining business operations during the epidemic. In addition, more than half (52%) of respondents believe that the business and operational challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic have highlighted the importance of IoT.

The rapid growth in IoT deployments over the past few years shows that industries around the world have made significant progress in solving some daunting global challenges. What is unexpected but reasonable is that the COVID-19 epidemic has further catalyzed enterprises’ demand for the application of Industry 4.0 technologies, especially the Industrial Internet of Things, to achieve continued business operations. We believe that companies that are ahead of their competitors in adopting IoT technologies across their value chain will achieve long-term success.

The Internet of Things can facilitate significant improvements in the efficiency, sustainability and security of global supply chains. Of course, there are areas where companies can make improvements to get the best benefit from the technology. While global production and supply chains are becoming increasingly digital and interconnected, connected services, data management, skills shortages, security threats and investment levels remain challenges for businesses.
