5G accelerates smart city construction

In the latest update to the Consumer Guide, International Data Corporation (IDC) predicts that global smart city spending will reach $95.8 billion in 2019, a 17.7% increase from 2018.

Initiatives related to data-driven public safety, smart transportation, resilient energy and infrastructure will attract the lion’s share of funding in 2019, but key use cases in the areas of economic development and citizen engagement, and sustainable planning and management will also see considerable investment.

The construction of smart cities in my country has been supported by the state and local governments at all levels. From 2017 to 2018, the state issued a series of policies to encourage the development of smart transportation, smart medical care, cloud computing, artificial intelligence and other fields.

By accelerating the in-depth integration of artificial intelligence with economy, society, national defense and other aspects, we will lay a solid foundation for the construction of smart cities. The construction and development of smart cities is inseparable from the application of information technology.

AIoT means AI IoT, which refers to the integration of artificial intelligence technology and the Internet of Things in practical applications. Smart cities are the mainstream form of future cities, and the Internet of Everything is only the basis for urban intelligence. With the support of AI, cities will have “smart brains” to add intelligent elements to the city and maximize urban management.

After 5G is officially commercialized, the smartness of cities will be greatly improved. For example, the ability to read and share intelligent surveillance data will be greatly enhanced, which also means that video surveillance will further move from “clearly visible” to “understandable”.

On the other hand, in addition to meeting ultra-fast video transmission and analysis, 5G-based smart city security systems will also promote their integration with IoT sensing devices and be widely used in urban environment monitoring and emergency disaster prevention.

For example, wireless sensors can be deployed in the meteorological system to issue climate warnings and disaster prevention warnings to avoid casualties and property casualties caused by extreme weather or disasters, thereby building a new barrier for urban security.

In recent years, with the advancement of smart city construction, the fire protection industry has also continued to grow, and the construction of smart fire protection has quietly begun. At present, fire protection systems in various regions are vigorously developing information applications to provide strong support for the city’s emergency prevention and control system.
